Heroku to Remove All Free Plans

The removal of one of the most used cloud platform options for tutorials and courses

On August 25, 2022, Heroku’s General Manager Bob Wise announced the removal of their free product plans alongside other changes.

If you are like me, you have probably looked towards Heroku more than once when working on a side project, a tutorial, or even for school or a bootcamp. They did say they plan to announce more information regarding both students and nonprofits at the next Dreamforce.

Focus on mission critical: discontinue free product plans and delete inactive accounts.

Accounts that have been inactive for over one year will also be getting removed in order to free up space. For those not subject to get deleted and plan to continue to utilize Heroku, these are the rates for their services that had free equivalents:

  • Heroku Dynos: $7/month
  • Heroku Data for Redis®: $15/month
  • Heroku Postgres: $9/month
